Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Whatever your views on children returning to school, it's very hard to understand how the Govt has come up with today's 'localised' restrictions. Haringey, Redbridge, and Hackney are very strange exceptions in London. Must be another of Gav's special algos.

Not the greatest piece of data viz having the shading lighten as cases rise, but it's from the GLA so we have to forgive it being a bit arse about face.

Redbridge sorted. Must be nice to have an MP who can be bothered.

How are parents feeling about sending their primary school children back into the classroom, when neighbouring Waltham Forest & Enfield are deemed too unsafe for them to return? Also, does anyone know what the current furlough rules are? Can parents who now have to home school go back onto furlough? What about if you choose to withdraw your child because local cases are so high, can they go on furlough? “Stay at home” but not if you live a mile down the road where it’s ok for you to cram into the playground with other parents & your child to mix with 30+ other children & adults.

There are no ‘furlough rules’ as such. Furloughing is a business decision and employers choose to do it when conditions demand it, so it’s not really your call unless of course you are an employer.

There’s a readable guide to the scheme produced by CIPD.  You’re of course right - it’s an employer decision, not an employee one.

The Tweet below sums it up.  Redbridge was added later after it had been omitted “in error”

Haringey currently challenging this decision and might not open primary schools from next week:

The DfE is now calling for schools in ALL London boroughs to teach remotely until Jan 18th.

Gavin has never been more confident that his is the right thing to do.... until, of course, he's confident that it isn't.
