Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

As many of you will have seen since the thaw, potholes have been appearing everywhere. I came across two very nasty ones this morning on Green Lanes (both in the northbound lane): pothole 1 is by the bus stop just before Endymion Road and pothole 2 is by the bus stop by Railway Fields opposite Harringay Green Lanes. I have reported them for repair but they might not be fixed immediately. If you come across any potholes, you can use this very easy reporting tool which identifies which council is responsible, and sends them an email: http://www.fillthathole.org.uk/hazards/report

Adam. Thanks- the old freeze- thaw effect in action. I have seen a quite a few today but stupidly did not take note of them. I will do so over coming days. I did report some subsidence on Wightman/ Alroy as you go over the railway bridges. I have had my heart in my mouth a few times when in the car as I come round that bend only to feel the road disappear from beneath the wheels. I did it via the council's on line problem reporter- https://eforms.secure.haringey.gov.uk/ufs/ufsmain?esessionid=5E25C3...

It seemed pretty good, I will let you know if the follow up is as efficient!
Thanks for reporting this, Adam. I saw the one near Endymion this morning - a great if somewhat horrific photo.

(BTW all road users need to beware of these, to avoid damaging suspension and watching out for other users suddenly changing course...)
Thanks Adam. This has reminded me of a shocker I noticed yesterday on Wightman - I think just before Falkland on left hand side heading North (but I'll need to check, not entirely sure). If you hit that coming down the hill you'd be in trouble. Will report as you suggest.
This one is outside my house it's between Fairfax and Effingham. It is huge.
Thanks Murry, have just reported it.
Many thanks, Adam. If they wish, people can also use Haringey's own website Report-a-Problem page - if they're sure the pothole is in Haringey.

It seems obvious to me that cyclists are among the best possible pothole detectors. So the goal should be to encourage them to report potholes quickly; and then for the Council or Transport for London to fix the holes just as rapidly and effectively.

Can I suggest HoL members should also post the location of any potholes which are reported but not filled within a reasonable time - especially if they are large and very dangerous.

P.S. I loved the photo on the Fillfillthathole website. Wish I'd thought of it.
as some of you will have seen the pothole by the bus stop that I initially reported 15 days ago has got bigger and bigger - so much for the 24 hour response to dangerous potholes. I called the relevant team on Friday and was told it was being fixed over the weekend, I called again today and was told it will repaired as a matter of urgency.

Good grief, that's more of a lake than a pothole. You'd be gonner if you cycled into that, do hope it gets fixed soon.
I saw this lake at the weekend - the bus drivers must be complaining about it too as they have to zigzag around it. This definitely should have had emergency attention before now so I don't know how their priorities work - the pothole at the top of Hewitt (relatively minor and not an obvious danger) has been repaired in the meantime.
2/2/10 - Finally fixed! Lake replaced by new oblong of tarmac...
Photos are great and helpful - but c'mon, Adam! "Pothole by the bus stop" in Green Lanes isn't terribly informative.

I was completely serious in my comment about cyclists as the best pothole reporters. Apart from having built-in detection equipment, cyclists have survival as a motivator for getting on their mobile phone without delay.

The pothole "hotline" is 020 8489 1335. Phone during office hours if you can. Then, when a pothole really is a danger to life and limb stress that to the person who takes the phonecall. He or she can speak to the Highways Officer - they are in the next office - and try to get things speeded-up.
A quick search on the forums for "pothole hotline" produced this. Sigh.
