Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I found these images in my collection - probably from the early 1980s.

I cannot remember taking them, but is it Grand Parade?

Hi

That's a picture of Green Lanes in Palmers Green. The give away is the shop Grouts.

Thought Grouts would be the answer to the puzzle!

Don’t think so Paul.  I’ve lived here since 1984 and I don’t remember their being an HFC Bank or Alliance and Leicester being on the Lanes, I certainly would remember a clothing shop called Grouts!  I don’t think we ever had little pedestrian islands in the middle of the road either.

In the background in picture 2 is is high gabled mock Tudor building that certainly isn’t on Grand Parade.  Looks more like Wood Green High Road to me, though for some reason when I first looked at it I though somewhere in the Midlands - don’t know why.

Apparently that part of the Palmers Green stretch of Green Lanes is featured in the “Knight Bus” scene in the film of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Definitely Palmers Green. Grouts would have stood on the corner of Devonshire Road. The second photo is looking north. The taller pitched roof in the distance on the left belongs to the old Fox pub.

Great old pics though.

I remember you form the fire at St Paul's Church photos, Paul. You must have a huge collection of photos you took from around the area, going back over, what, 50 years or so?

Thanks everyone. Thats that sorted out then.
My photos (mainly of fire brigade stuff) dates back to the early 1970s.
Sadly I was not interested in street scenes etc at the time - much to my annoyance now.

If I come across any Harringay stuff I will post it here.
