Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

We're looking to replace our current front door with a solid wood Victorian-style one with stained glass panels. Has anyone done theirs recently and can give us a guide on how much it cost? We'll be looking at replacing the frame too, and also having stained glass to replace the current glass panel above the door.

Thanks!

Would love to know also

I had to do this because of this bloody nightmare: https://www.harringayonline.com/forum/topics/front-door-wanted-for-...

New doors are costly, including fitting you’re looking in the thousands.

There’s a place in Crewe’s Hill which sells reclaimed doors, but it’s all about the size and fitting. Even your neighbours’ doors won’t necessarily fit your cavity and frames will be all over the place. Unless your current door is unusable or you have the cash & time to deal with it, i’d Suggest keeping your current door.

I remember that thread! Thanks for the tip about Crewe's Hill, will look them up. Definitely don't want to keep our front door - it's UPVC with massive glass panels and just doesn't suit the house.

Timber door without glazing, side panels or fanlights is around 1000-1300 depends on design and ironmongery if you don't go for some expensive lock like Banham

Composite doors are approximately half price.

Adding glazing, side panels or fanlights and the price can go up a lot

Thanks, especially for the Banham tip. They're a good brand but I'm sure other locks are just as sturdy!

Hi. We recently investigated replacing our front door on the ladder for the full works: solid timber, new frame, stained glass in the door and fanlight. Quotes were in the 6-8k range.

That's an eye watering amount! We're starting to get quotes now - hopefully some will come up cheaper.

We replaced a Twenties front door a few years ago after being broken into.   Muswell hill joiners made it, insurance paid, thankfully, but seem to recall it was £3-4K.

Thanks, will try the joiners.

Ours was done a couple of years ago with fanlight for about £3500 I believe

Thanks - can you recommend where you got it from?

Absolutely, yes. We used Ian Foster and sons who are based in Romford, Essex. Very professional, excellent work and came with usual insurance guarantees and Banham locks etc
