Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Someone has thrown a dead fox inside the river gates in Pemberton road. The same fox was in front of a house in Wightman road two days ago, just round the corner from Pemberton. It looks like whoever moved it thought it would be easier to chuck it down the road, behind a locked gate, then phoning the council and dispose of it properly.

Does anyone know who is responsible for collecting dead foxes in Harringay? I tried calling the rspca but gave up  after 20 min waiting on the phone. I guess Thames water will need to get involved as they have the keys to the gate?

Poor fox. The Haringey Council Refuse department - Veolia remove dead animals from publicly accessible areas (tel 0208 885 7700). However, as you say, the fox presumably can't be accessed now, so I guess contact Thames Water as they can get access. It's worth telling Veolia too. RSPCA can't do anything.

Dead animals are collected by the local authority.  I reported yesterday on the Haringey app so hopefully the poor thing will be collected soon though a phone call reporting it again might help speed things up

I have to agree.

Of course Haringey Council should have been called in the first place but holiday time and those loooooong telephone waiting times I cannot fault the person who did the chucking!

I fear that it’s the person who chucked it over the fence who caused the problem.  If it was on the roadway or public footpath there would be no dispute that it’s Haringey’s responsibility to collect.  Now it’s on Thames Water land (by a few inches) there’s going to be a lot of hither and thither over who is going to open the gate and get the corpse.  I suppose we should be thankful that the temperature is low otherwise it would be..... well, I’ll leave it to your imagination.

It’s lying on a concrete ramp next to the footpath so will putrefy rather than be consumed by worms.

I’ve just walked by and it’s still there so have reported it again.  Could some others on Pemberton also give it a go please as a few more reports might up the ante.  No need to hang on the phone, just use the free app or send an email

Both me, my flatmate and a neighbour have called the council and they have been saying they will let Veolia know. I would be tempted to put it in a black bag and leave it in front of the council...I am sure they would do something about it immediately!

Thanks Anton

I got a written reply from veolia saying they can't remove the fox as it is behind a closed gate.
Honestly, the fox is very near the gate and could be reached by using a rake or broom. Veolia and the council are just being unhelpful, which is rather annoying given the amount of council tax we pay.
Does anyone have any ideas...or better even, a connection within the council???

I’ve sent an email to Thames Water to see if they can sort it out but why Haringey couldn’t just pick up the phone and let one of their contacts at TW know about this defeats me

TW rang me half an hour after I sent the email to confirm the location so fingers crossed.....

Great, thanks for contacting TW. Let's hope they pick it up.

Update - the fox is now gone. I got it closer to the gate with a rake and forced veolia to pick it up this morning when they came round to collect the rubbish.
