Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Someone in our street threw a humdinger of a party last night that is still going on now, with a group of people in the garden talking at the tops of their voices with clearly no thought to any neighbours or the fact they live in a fairly quiet residential street. Yet no one seems willing to ask them to pipe down! We don't live that close (the noise carries though and we had to keep our windows shut last night) so while I am tempted to go round and ask them to stop now, I think if people closer don't appear to mind the noise, I shouldn't let it bother me either. I just don't understand why no one's complained though!

I do and have done.

I do too, normally, but as I said the party's not that close to us. It's STILL ongoing though and I'm just baffled as to why the immediate neighbours haven't complained! The noise must've been deafening right next door at its peak. Unless, of course, they were invited...

... how do you know that nobody asked them to be quite...

That's very true. I assumed no one has because they're still making noise and not giving a toss about it!

... you could look at Haringey Council's Noise Nuisance page on their website...

I do go and complain to their faces but generally it has little effect. With one particular group of serial offenders, I’m afraid we’ve resorted to calling the council because they simply refuse to accept that screaming, swearing, music and raucous singing in the garden until the early hours is anti-social and selfish. I usually like to sort neighbour problems out by negotiation but some people don’t care. Incidentally despite a visit from the council (and they’ve had letters previously), they didn’t shut up on the last occasion.

I just had to go round to someone's house in the next street whose garden backs onto our neighbour's and ask them to turn down their music because it was so ridiculously loud you could feel it vibrating through the floor! I think they were retaliating because of Saturday night's party - that's all we need, tit-for-tat noise nuisance.  They did turn it down though, when I explained us and half our street were trying to get our children to sleep on a school night!

What is it about hot weather though that makes people forget any social niceties???

Ironically it was to celebrate Pride - shame they didn't apply its core values of tolerance, respect, compassion and understanding to their neighbours! If there is a next time we'll definitely go straight to the authorities to deal with. We're going to check on the elderly neighbour who lives closest because they are on their own and may have been too nervous to go round.

Was this on Fairfax road last night?

No, it was Sydney Road. You had a disturbed night too, I take it?

We were affected by this, on Fairfax right by the passage. Loud house party with large groups of people on the sidewalk screaming and drinking. Horrible.

I've complained twice to the Council in the past few years. Both times I got no returned call. What are we paying taxes for?
