New Fish shop on Green Lanes

I myself am a HUGE fish lover and wanted to welcome the new fish shop with welcoming arms - sadly this wasn't the case. On closer inspection yesterday I was deeply disappointed with what was on offer. Sullen looking fish with soft scales, limp fins and foggy eyes. Some fish lay there headless with dry fleshy meat that left a bad taste in my mouth. I asked the fish monger how "fresh" the catch was but with his head tilted to one side he gave me the blankest look that told me that he had no idea what I was talking about. I again asked the second monger only to be told "yes fresh". After much debate we came to a mutual decision that he wasn't really sure how fresh they where but he got them "fresh" 2 days ago but when they were caught - who knows. In the end I walked away thinking about what could have been.

Afraid it's the stall at Wood Green every time for me. Now that's fresh. And they'll even get things in to order.

The nice thing about octopus is everybody gets a leg :-)

I wonder about the Wood Green fish stall on Green Lanes - it seems horribly exposed to diesel fumes etc

Just out of interest, this morning whilst daydreaming sitting on the 29 to work I saw a Halal butchers/fishmongers. Now I know how Halal creatures are killed adhering to religious custom, but how do you have Halal fish/shellfish etc? Genuinely?

If you haven't yet had him drop round, there's a great fish man who comes round our way every week (can't remember which day off hand).

He's from Grimsby and his stuff is super fresh and very good - highly recommended.

If anyone hasn't had him visit and wants him to I'm happy to pass on addresses for him to knock on...
