Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi - I'm new to this forum and I'm thinking of setting up a monthly book club in the Harringay Green Lanes area. I was thinking every fourth Sunday 3pm-5pm at The Salisbury pub (subject to checking with the venue).

Would anyone be interested?

Hi All, really happy to see that a few people are interested.
I’m suggesting 12 November for our first meeting and I’ve chosen The Burning Girl by Claire Messud for the first book (more democratic book choosing to follow once we get going!)
I’ve created a Facebook group as I tend to find this the easiest way to organise events but I will also make sure details are on this forum. You can find the group and event at the following link: https://m.facebook.com/groups/341290152999676 Please join! Looking forward to meeting you in November :)
It has just been pointed out to me that the book is not available in paperback yet and big hardbacks are not ideal for commuters! I will choose something else and let you know ASAP!
Revised book choice: Crooked Heart by Lissa Evans

Hi Fran, I'm really interested to join in.

Is it still open for me to join in?

I'm not on Facebook and so not to sure if the club is happening. Please can you confirm and give details. Thanks

Hello Mandy,  I have just joined in -      it will be on Sunday  12 November at 15:00–17:00

Fran has arranged it at The Salisbury Pub (1 Grand Parade, Green Lanes, London N4 1JX)

the book chosen is Crooked Heart by Lissa Evans

Hi everyone,

sorry if this message arrives so late!   Below are 3 books to choose from. Anyone planning to attend the session on Sunday 11th FEB let us know your preference by no later than today... Saturday 20th January?

we have agreed the February theme will be Nordic noir.for the next book club session in February (Sunday 11th, 3pm at the salisbury pub N4 1JX)

OPTION 1 -- BLACKOUT by Ragnar Jonasson:

On the shores of a tranquil fjord in Northern Iceland, a man is brutally beaten to death on a bright summer's night. A young reporter leaves Reykajvik to investigate on her own, unaware that an innocent person's life hangs in the balance. Ari Thor Arason and his colleagues on the tiny police force in Siglufjordur struggle with an increasingly perplexing case, while their own serious personal problems push them to the limit. What secrets does the dead man harbour, and what is the young reporter hiding? As silent, unspoken horrors from the past threaten them all, and the darkness deepens, it s a race against time to find the killer before someone else dies...

-OPTION 2 DARK AS MY HEART by Antti Tuomainen:

Aleksi lost his mother on a rainy October day when he was thirteen years old. Twenty years later, he is certain that he knows who's responsible. Everything points to millionaire Henrik Saarinen. The police don't agree. He has only one option: to get close to Saarinen and find out the truth about his mother's fate on his own. But as Aleksi soon discovers, delving into Saarinen and his alluring daughter’s family secrets is a confusing and dangerous enterprise.

-OPTION 3 THE ICE PRINCESS by Camilla Lackberg:

Returning to her hometown after the funeral of her parents, writer Erica Falck finds a community on the brink of tragedy. The death of her childhood friend, Alex, is just the beginning. Her wrists slashed, her body frozen in an ice-cold bath, it seems like she’s taken her own life.
Meanwhile, local detective Patrik Hedström is following his own suspicions about the case. It’s only when they start working together that the truth begins to emerge about a small town with a deeply disturbing past…

... and the chosen option for the next book club in February - Sunday 11th, 3pm at the salisbury pub N4 1JX)
