Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

It seems the West Green Tavern is on the market.

By the look of the details given on rightmove the pub will stay, with the opportunity to develop housing upstairs.

Does anyone local have strong feelings about what should/ should happen to the building. What would locals like to see in the area? A decent pub would be a nice addition to WGR I think!

I hardly drink but I do like a good pub. HC should be looking to preserve all the good pubs in Haringey. the Queens head was a lovely classic pub back in the day, had a large pool room etc These places are being decimated. It would be good to have other community centres around here, a theatre, a decent cinema like the picturehouse in crouch end,  there are very few places to go to in wood green - if I am wrong please let me know. There used to be a movie club  in the salisbury and there is one in west green - but only once a month or so. I go to Crouch end more often than wood green or somewhere in town. Its a shame as i would prefer to go local, All those lovely theatres converetd into fundamentalist christian churches too. This kind of stuff wouldnt be allowed in islington. Why Is IC better at this than HC? Is it the quality of the councillors??

Billy you don't seem to have been around much lately, ChickenTown shut at xmas.  The WestGreen has been shut for at least two years now though it was briefly squatted.  Are you one of those incomers who is now outgone?

I agree! We had enforcement issues next door. I work for a neighbouring council and people would never get away with what they get away with in (East) Haringey which is directly linked to the issue why they are doing it here.

Developments at the West Green Tavern...it is being refurbished as a pub and will serve oven pizzas. I had a brief conversation with the guys doing this today. One is a 7 Sisters local and the other from not far away in NE London. See attached pix of the Notice of Application for a Premises Licence .

Billy Hole will be pleased....I am and hope it is good and if so, successful.

Hello Andrew.
What is happening with The Hope & Anchor? We realise the flats are being refurbished so does this affect the pub/landlady etc...?

Here's the lataest from teh WG Tavern.....It is looking good. So w've ot a number of new of rvitalized pubs in Tottenham: The Blue Coats, The High Cross and soon this pizza place.

Keeping fingers crossed x

Yes, it's all very positive. But please consider that this is a venue with very limited space, no real prep area (limiting it to pizza) and a non-existent middle-class to support it.

You need a LOT of bearded men and women supping expensive 'craft' beers and eating expensive pizza to make a business work.

It will only break-even as a pizza takeaway kitchen or just another faux hip booze outlet.

Disclaimer: I may well be wrong, but a looooong line of similar businesses suggest I wont be.

I also disagree. The place is only a few minutes walk from our house and from other forums, I know there‘s a large amount of people waiting for nice places in the area to open. It‘s run by locals so I guess they‘ve gaged demand.

Been pining for a good local for the 12 years I've been in the area, hopefully this is it.  Plenty up on Green lanes and Hornsey high st, the Westbury is it a bit meh,   but barren on West Green Rd.  Till now hopefully.....
