I noticed the following tweet on the Harringay police twitter stream this week. Ramazan is one of the two brothers who run Selale, along with their friend.
Well done Ramazan.
Thanks to traders Ramazan and Ali who helped us when a violent male assaulted my colleague and I on #GreenLanes yesterday @Harringay4shops pic.twitter.com/N7D6JRKzFA

Splendid.
Don't forget we have the toughest traders in London. Great stuff.
It’s not great. It’s horrible having to live in an area where this is par for the course. There’s a reason why this sort of thing happens here and not elsewhere in the borough. This street is a magnet for all kinds of trouble from the sexist shopkeepers to the plastic gangsters and the flytipping businesses and the drug dealing. It’s rotten and it’s ingrained in Harringay and there’s a reason for it.
Perhaps Lauren it's worth peppering your opinions with some facts. Take a look at the crime stats. Even allowing for the fact that Harringay ward's crime rates includes the stats for the whole of Finsbury Park, it doesn't do too badly.
The latest available stats show that Harringay has only the eighth highest reported crime rates out of all 12 wards in the borough
I like that people are proud of their Haringay yes it has its problems and I know terrible things probably go on we don’t know about, but Haringay is friendly, and do look out for each other too . I love to walk down Green lanes and have all the men in the barbers wave at us , the people in the corner shop say good morning . My family has lived here since the 1920s and never left the area , I feel safe in the knowledge if I was in trouble on Green Lanes most of the people working there would help out.
I had to resort to Urban Dictionary to find out what a plastic gangster might be. I don't recall encountering one of these but I shall keep a look out in future.
