Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Sending a recorded delivery letter today, I got into conversation with the lady behind me in the queue. She'd come to Harringay all the way from Alexandra Park Road just to use our post office. She told me that she used to use Wood Green Post Office, but that since the crown office had been closed, she no longer did. She said that service and the queueing system in the new branch in W H Smith was so bad that she came all the way to Harringay.

I guess we'll have to get used to something pretty similar if, as looks likely they close Harringay Crown Office.

"service and the queueing system in the new branch in W H Smith was so bad" - I agree, used it once, never again.

Yes, I live in N22 and have to use the grotty new PO at the back of the even grottier WH Smiths. It is not an experience I recommend.

Hmm I have an appointment nearby today and have to send a parcel.... Guess I'll find out!

Hi All

Thank you for all your continued support to save Harringay Crown Post Office. It's still standing and so are we! A campaign group has now been set up and we will be outside the Office on Green Lanes on Saturday (22nd July) from 10am - 12.30pm with petitions and leaflets. Please join us if you can, even if it's just to say hello - ALL welcome.

Actually it was fine. The most annoying part was going to the back of the store to get envelopes, then having to go all the way to the front to pay for them before heading back to the back again.

There was a very short queue for the self service machines which got even shorter because one of them was cash only and I happened to have enough cash to send a small parcel to New Zealand. There was even an employee there helping people.

"There was even an employee there helping people." however in my post office there are several trained people who can e.g. help me with the relative costs of parcels to various worldwide destinations and how to repack them to other dimensions so as to make it cheaper. There are also people to answer queries on passports, paying bills, pensions etc etc etc so for me a shop may be able to sell stamps but can never replace all the services offered by my post office.

I do all that stuff online. New passport arrived in two working days over the Christmas period and no queuing!

Yes I agree its more convenient but many people have no access to on line facilities and need help getting all the info and in making the right decisions and the Post Office is a great resource for this.
