Yearly free removal Bulky waste in Harringay Autumn-Winter 2010-2011
The annual service provided by Haringey Council to remove unwanted household rubbish will be taking place in Harringay between October and January. Haringey Council call this their "Community Clear up".

Residents can put out up to 15 bulky items for collection when the Community Clear Up is scheduled to visit their road. They will take:
They will not collect the following items as part of the Community Clear Up service:
These items have to be collected by a separate vehicle because they may contain hazardous substances or can be reused or recycled. The Council therefore collects these items free of charge, at any time of the year. In addition, the council cannot collect:
The Council advise that the community clear up service can be provided only to those homes that have a front garden area where large and bulky items can be placed out of harms way to passers-by. This means that although your road might be mentioned within the schedule, we cannot guarantee that every home will be able to receive the service.
Leaving items on the pavement is not permitted in any circumstances because this poses risks to pedestrians.

- Household and garden furniture
- Mattresses and carpet
- Wooden items - must be broken down into pieces no longer than 1.5 metres (5 foot) and be bundled together
- Electrical appliances, excluding the items listed below, which can be collected free at any time.
They will not collect the following items as part of the Community Clear Up service:
- Fridges and freezers
- Ovens and cookers
- Washing machines, tumble driers and dishwashers
- TVs and IT equipment
- Car batteries
- Gas cylinders
- Tyres

- Bathroom fittings including sinks, baths and toilet bowls
- Green garden waste

Why can't the Council issue advance publicity in respect of this service? Since my street is missing from the attached spreadsheet schedule, I can only assume the date has passed for this year. How crap is that? How difficult or expensive would it be to leave a small flyer pushed into the handle of your wheelie bin a couple of weeks before the collection date for your street? Too much in the way of advance thinking required no doubt! Of course, the small amounts we pay in council tax would not cover anything as helpful as that. I'm cynical and I suspect that publicity would merely generate interest, ergo the requirement to deploy more Council resources.
