If you've been reading HoL for a while you might remember my previous posts on Tramp, a cafe / bar / restaurant with a classical music theme due to open on the corner of Lothair opposite the Beaconsfield.
Almost 18 months ago, I posted some pictures of what owner Haldun has been doing to the interior. I was shown around again yesterday and I can tell you it's getting even more amazing.
No detail is too small for Haldun. Amongst my favourite additions since I last saw inside are the loos. The walls are tiled with glazed white brick from a City Building that was being demolished, the floor with old encaustic tiles. Pride of place though is reserved for a hand painted tile panel rescued from an old house being demolished behind Seven Sisters Road opposite Finsbury Park - beautiful work from around the turn of the last century. I've never seen the like. (No pictures this time - I've sworn off taking any more pictures until the whole chef d'oeuvre is complete.)
Haldun's an artist. He's putting his heart and soul into Tramp. The place he's creating is going to be something very special and I was so glad to hear things are still on track for it to open.
With an original plan to open for his 50th birthday on 22nd April 2013, Haldun's now targeting Valentine's Day 2015. From what I've seen so far, it'll be worth waiting for.
