Hello,
Can anyone recommend an independent damp specialist specifically for penetrating damp? We have damp coming in through the roof and damp patches on the walls in the back bedroom of our terraced house which definitely get worse after heavy rain.
We've had several roofers to look at the roof and already had some work done but none of them seem to have correctly identified the cause so we would prefer a damp specialist.
Many thanks,
Flora

I've just had this issue - in my case it was mostly leaking/blocked guttering. I used Keith Gardener based on recommendations here. If you search for his name, you should find his details. He is knowledgeable and thorough and so I am happy to recommend him. Visit and report will set me back about £190 but I think it was worth it.
My good builders recommended Kenwood plc.
Good luck, Marian.
What a great warning, thank you very much.
Thanks all for the advice. I'm definitely wary of companies like Kenwood, which is why we'd prefer an independent specialist. The damp is on an internal wall, so not the guttering. In fact, I am fairly certain it's coming from an old chimney stack but I would prefer an expert to confirm this!
I would recommend Abbott Damp proofing which is run by David Prince - 27 Gresham Close, Enfield EN2 7AP
. They also have a website.
Alison, I was just about to log in to write a message when I saw your post. We had Dave from Abbotts round to do a survey and were initially impressed with the service and the advice he offered, however we are also still waiting for the report despite chasing. It seems an awfully long time and we were hoping to get on and fix the problems before our baby is due in a month - that's looking less and less likely now, unfortunately.
