Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

It was brought to my attention last week that there were changes afoot re the award-winning teen library in Wood Green. There were fears in some quarters that the library was earmarked for closure. As services for young people are already cut to the bone, I was anxious to find out whether these fears were justified.

So I thought I would get the answer right from the horse's mouth, as it were, and emailed Richard Watson, cabinet member responsible for libraries. His swift response (a model to some of his colleagues  ) was able to allay those fears.

The teen library isn't closing but being relocated within the building to the first floor. In Councillor Watson's words,

What we will be doing is relocating the youth library to within the existing children’s library on the first floor, where it will benefit from regular opening hours and dedicated staff on hand to support young people with their enquiries. Unlike the current youth library, the children’s library is open at all times during library opening hours.

We will be consulting with Haringey Youth Council to help us plan the details of the relocation. The relocation will not impact on services currently offered by the children’s library.

I am sure that Cllr Watson, who gave me permission to publicise the above information widely, would also welcome comments from any young users of this facility (or, indeed, their parents) about the proposed changes.
