Surprised it hasn’t been mentioned on here...
Since the ‘vegas’ circus has come and gone the common is absolutely destroyed. Do we know if the council plan on ‘making good’? It’s a right old mess. Surely any money they’ve made from renting the land has been nullified if they have to spend it all on tidying the land up again?!
im not in the landscape gardening industry, and this is some serious fag packet maths, but I can’t see the council getting much change back from £20k to sort out the mess...

I was thinking exactly that
The state of that grass, turned into a mud bath. Shocking & actually depressing.
What do you mean depressing??
Cyclocross heavan!!! I'll be out on my mountain bike whizzing around on that before it dries out ..Won't make a good surface for your Beerfest though.
I live at the Duckett’s common end of Hampden Rd, and knew this was going to be the case, especially with the wet weather.
It really is in a terrible state, and it looks like some serious landscaping is going to be required to bring it back to the neutral state it was in before the Circus ploughed it up.
a neighbour who lives in one of the houses pictured said the deconstruction and removal of the Circus went on until 2.45am on the Monday morning.
And i’d also read a thread further down HoL that said there was a hole in the Council budget for Parks. Good luck with getting Duckett’s Common restored then!
I’ve requested a Lib Dem councillor to put in an appropriate member‘s enquiry.
I‘ll publish it here as soon as it’s submitted.
All the best,
David
Well local council elections are coming up. Time to research who not to vote for.
Totally agree Chris, but councillors are mostly elected by political merit and cultural loyalty, local policies are insignificant.
Many thanks to Cllr Clive Carter who with lightning speed has put in the following enquiry:
(1) what monies did the Council receive for permitting the circus to occupy the Common?
(2) is any additional sum payable to reinstate and if so how much?
(3) what is the estimated cost to the Council of the reinstatement?
(4) when the reinstatement will be done please?
(5) how much in addition is to be allocated to the Common out of the monies received from the operators of the circusm beyond the sums budgeted for its maintenance for the current municipal year?
(6) How much of those monies is to be allocated to other parks beyond the sums budgeted for their maintenance for the current municipal year.
Yes, surprised how much of a mess it is. Can't see them fixing it up as the GERMAN VILLAGE AND BIERFEST. On the upside there will be beer
I sent in a photo and complaint about the state of Ducketts Common on Sunday April 8 to the Parks Service. I have had a reply saying the circus will be paying for the damage. But like many of you, I think this is a huge mess and have been in correspondence again today. I will be asking questions about the wisdom of the next event given the state of the meadow currently. Whether the Parks Service could have anticipated this is another question to ask.
We have got a £125k investment coming to Ducketts Common which will pay, amongst other things, for bringing the rather forlorn 'flower bed' by the bus stop back into the curtilage of the park; new benches; a loo near the cafe and other improvements.
