Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Thanks to HoL member and Ladder resident Andy Stone who contacted me lat week with a little treasure trove of local, regional and national newspapers dating from 1903 to 1938.

This first clipping (strangely from me) is not Harringayana. It's from a 1915 Evening News (old enough to remember that?) in which Wards Stores in Seven Sisters was advertised.

Since the Wards Corners campaigners have had such a tough time of it of late, I thought I'd offer them this wee gift. A slice of the newspaper's front page is provided below the advert.

Cool, thanks.

We find odds+sods of old Wards memories that we can add to our history - I have a precious catalogue from 1940-something. Here's the cover logo.

Many local people have stories of shopping there too. It is so very shameful that LBH and TfL have allowed this wonderful site to lay empty for 40 years. We can do so much with it, the space on the first floor is the size of a football pitch and it is all still in good nick behind those bloody hoardings.
