Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The Young Foundation's recent 'Charm Offensive' report examines the commonly held notion that civility is on the decline in the UK and challenges the notion.

It argues that civility is the "largely invisible ‘glue' that holds communities together and that experiences of incivility cause hurt, stress and deeper social problems, and has a bigger impact of people's sense of social health than crime statistics".

The report reaches the surprising conclusion that contrary to popular opinion, we have not witnessed the death of manners but are, in fact, at least holding steady and have perhaps even improved slightly in matters of politeness over the past 20 years.

In general Britain remains a well-mannered and courteous country. We still compare favourably to other developed nations. most people still feel like they can trust others and that their neighbourhoods are free from anti-social behaviour.

Get knotted, you bunch of beardies, with your half-baked, airy-fairy conclusions :-)
I've decided that drivers in Haringey are much more polite, despite their frequent disregard for the rules of the road. I drive to Hampstead every week, and the closer I get, the less people thank you for giving way and the more pushy they seem. Perhaps living in such a crowded area makes us more tolerant of each other and less inclined to feel entitled to special treatment.
