Stokey Cats and Dogs are a local volunteer group who rescue local stray cats. It's vital that cats are neutered as there are so many homeless cats. They rescue cats and get them neutered, microchipped and rehomed. They also rely on and welcome funds donated by the community on their fundraising page here or you can donate via PayPal to stokeycatsndogs@gmail.com. (If you can't offer a permanent home to a cat, Stokey also urgently need more fosterers - which means providing a temporary home for a cat until a permanent home is found. You don't need to have a garden to foster. If more people foster, Stokey will be able to help more homeless cats).

Can you tell me more about fostering? What is the minimum and maximum time frame to foster? Also do you have cats that are ok with babies and kids? Thanks!

Thanks so much Alison for enquiring about fostering. Stokey Cats and Dogs welcome people interested in joining their fostering team of volunteers and they urgently need more. Foster carers are volunteers, who look after a cat in their own home, until a suitable permanent home can be found. The homeless cats have been neutered, chipped, and treated for fleas and worms.
Fostering can be for a short period or a longer period, depending on what suits you as there is no permanent commitment (although sometimes a foster carer gets very attached to the cat and asks to offer the cat a permanent home, which is lovely!) Ideally a fosterer looks after a cat until Stokey finds the cat a permanent home. However, if a fosterer can no longer look after a cat waiting for a permanent home, then Stokey will find another fosterer to look after the cat.
In terms of ages of children and matching suitable cats and queries, the best thing to do is email Ella who runs Stokey. Her email is stokeycatsndogs@gmail.com and you can then tell her about your home, family, circumstances and availability and she can answer any queries. A home visit check is done for temporary fosterers (or for people offering a permanent home). Ella is also on this forum, but doesn't regularly post as she's always busy helping cats! There is also Stokey Cats and Dogs Facebook group and you can direct message her there too.When people become fosterers, they really enjoy it, so I encourage people to get involved. It's lovely to see an animal in need start to flourish in a home environment. It's a great way to help homeless animals in the community.
