Help - Word document that I can download on App store?

I use Pages as well as Word for Mac. You can export from Pages to pdf and Word formats.

There may well be free apps or software packages, but I don't know what they are, so I'll leave those for others to point up.

Yeah but I thought you could only open the document on a mac

Pages may well work for you, but Microsoft does produce word, excel, powerpoint for the Mac, it just doesn't sell them through the App Store: https://products.office.com/en-gb/mac/microsoft-office-for-mac

(I've been using Microsoft Office on Macs for >25 years)

There's also a good free option, LibreOffice - again, not in the app store, but very well established open source software: http://www.libreoffice.org

I tend to use Word for Mac for straightforward word processing and Excel for spreadsheets, but I find Pages better for more 'produced' documents, including sometimes business proposals.

in APP STORE download NOTE (a Microsoft item) its free. You can open up Word or Excel files. Takes a bit of getting used to but it works.
