I am now in training for a couple of charity runs in the summer, the first being the Cancer Research Race for Life 5K run. Finsbury Park seems like a good training ground but does anyone know how long the perimeter road is all the way round please?

I see the Serpentine Running Club had a 5mile = 8km race around Finsbury Park perimeter road in 2006. Three laps. That sounds like 5km would be 1.875 laps - better call it 2 full laps. But we hope you'll include two half-lengths of Wightman/Alroy/Endymion Roads, just to warm up and cool down.
A couple of years back, somebody marked out the distance on the perimeter road at 100m intervals, from the Endymion Road entrance via Finsbury Park entrance and Manor House entrance before arriving back at Endymion Road again. It came to about 2250m, so (assuming the measurements were correct) Alistairj is pretty much spot on.
I used to race and had all my training runs measured around where I live and as I raced and trained a lot knew my abilities/limitations very well
I occasionally when at work I trained to fit in with home life and ran from St Anns Road up Hermitage then around the perimiter of the park (not the road) twice and back to St Anns Road and the times I ran indicated to me that it was about 5 miles.
I would also make Alistairj pretty much right.
Stick to grass or country during sunlight though as you will get less chance of shin splints or hip problems (repetitive strain). In the dark obviously country is not always possible.
