Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi

I'm having my staircase repaired as many of the spindles are broken. I have searched everywhere locally and online for pine spindles 27mm x 27mm x 900mm but cant find any that size. They are all 32mm x 32mm or thicker.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows where I can look for new or reclaimed ones? I can have them made but the price is £25 each rather than £3 each ready made.

Thanks

Susan

You're welcome, why does the size need to be so exact, are you trying to fit them into a baserail/runner/handrail? Could be worth replacing this or modifying it if so...

Hi Rob

Yes the base and the hand rail have the gaps there for them to fit in. To replace everything seems such a lot of effort for 10 spindles and also costly. I have discovered that they dont make the slimmer spindles any more as they don't comply with building regulations.

I think Ill have to either find reclaimed ones or have some made.

Fair enough, one last thing...could you not have the 32mm sq. spindles machined at each end, it's only 5mm on each end, you could ask someone with a table saw to do this, or go to a place such as www.dwgeneralwood.co.uk who are in Tottenham. Best of luck with it, it's worth it, put up a photo when your done!

Hi Rob

thanks

I was wondering if that could be done. I have found a carpenter who reckons her could fix anything and hes told me to buy the bigger ones and he'll sort it out so I think that's what he has in mind.

Worth checking out Stoneage Salvage & Reclamation in Crews Hill.
