Well done for helping the cat. There are a few lost black cats locally or it could be be homeless.

If you have a secure cat carrier, you could take it to a vet to be scanned for free to see if microchipped. A vet will also confirm whether the cat needs neutering, as neutering is vital before letting a cat or kitten roam outside.

I always encourage cat owners to get their cat neutered, microchipped and have a cat flap and keep their cat safe inside at night as that reduces the risk of them getting lost or injured.

Also you could take a close up photo of the cat's face and put the photo on here.

If not microchipped or no neighbours recognise the cat, you could put the cat's details and photo on Animal Search so that anyone who has registered a lost cat on there will be automatically notified. It's free to do that.

I can't take credit for helping the cat, I've just seen it and my neighbours mistook it for my cat on Saturday when it was trying to enter another neighbours coal shoot. I don't have time this week to take a cat to the vet but will discuss it with my neighbours and see if anyone has! I will also take photo if I am around in daylight this week. Thank you so much for the advice.

We are looking for this cat. He escaped from a temporary home in Woodberry down a day before his visit to the vet. He is not neutered and not chipped. Could it be him?
