Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Having recently written an article for a professional journal on clinical wills I've felt a more pressing need to update my personal one. It's an uncomfortable topic we could find ourselves avoiding eg I know people in their 60s without a will. A recent talk at my Chamber of Commerce had a solicitor talking about this and they charge £800 for both, which seems quite steep. Does have anyone have any experience of getting on or both done effectively and cheaper? I feel it should not cost so much to take responsibility by planning for one's demise! And don't even get me started on the unregulated funeral industry

Try these - Fees are £100 plus VAT for a single Will and £140 plus VAT for a joint Will, much more reasonable:

Thanks for this....

Hi, I investigated this but what's not good, I think, is they outsource to another company and it's all done by post. I feel it's important to be able to meet the solicitor and properly discuss it. Also if there is no meeting how is the will properly witnessed?

Hi I got my dads will done and was made power of attorney for £50! And the solicitor came to my dad house too!!
You can also buy wills from the post office
Mr moody in Barnet

That's good they came to his house, Emma - more services should offer such things. I wouldn't personally go down the DIY route as so often it's been found to be faulty - without a professional involved too easy to overlook things and not get it witnessed properly.

My union offers a will writing service for free - so if you're a member, worth checking if that's a perk.

Thanks - I'm not but useful reminder for others...

Age Concern can point in the right direction.

Sorry meant Age UK
I've also just seen an ad on the telly for Macmillan Cancer Support's discounted will writing service..."call 0800 804 8490 or text LEAFLET to 70550" for their free leaflet

Thanks for this, Antoinette and Tina. I've not (yet) gone down the charity route as I think there would be pressure to donate to their charities when I prefer to focus on ones I've been doing for a while. I should investigate it, though.

I was just alerted to reply but when I clicked there was a statement that it had been deleted. How does this happen? Is there a moderator doing this?
