It's my understanding that alcohol consumption is banned on Ducketts Common. 9 years ago when I moved to the area the park was knee deep in rubbish, cans, condoms, winos and vagrants. I and most other woman would rarely walk across it, for women with prams and kids it was impossible. The police and council (and some locals) targetted it for cleaning up a few years ago. They patrolled it regularly and moved on the alcoholics who would gather in intimidating groups round various park benches. When I pass it now I smile, to see kids, families, all local people enjoying a cleaned up green area, outdoor gym, basket ball etc. The last thing we need is to encourage drinkers to hang out there again. GO TO A PUB eg The Turnpike just a few yards up the Lane. And I congratulate the police and council for all they've done to make Ducketts Common a safe and pleasant place to be.
Surely the kiosk is not licensed?
Errr i still don't think its particularly safe or alcohol free!
I'm a 6ft 3 man and I wouldn't walk across it after dark. scary place.
On the other hand, I walked across late one evening. There was a bunch of youths straddling the path and I wondered.....
But one of the young men detached himself from the group, came towards me and said "It's cool man - don't worry "
Very perceptive of him I thought and very nice.
Old Tubby's saveloys made a return yet?
