Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Yahoo mail won't open on my laptop since yesterday. Opens fine on my wife's. Any ideas of what there might be on my laptop that's blocking it? Have installed window updates v recently.

The first thing I would try is to check how it behaves in different browsers. If you normally use Firefox, try loading it in Chrome (and vice versa). If it loads in one, but not the other, it may be an issue with cookies/cache in the offending browser. But before clearing cookies/cache, I would look into the possibility that it might be an issue with an add-on or plug-in you have installed in the browser, e.g. one that blocks ads or Flash. In that case it would be worth trying to load the page with plug-ins/add-ons disabled. In Firefox this is done by going to the 'Help' menu and selecting 'Restart with Add-ons disabled'. If the Yahoo page still won't load, you could try clearing cookies. In this case you should tread carefully because, depending on your current settings, clearing history may clear not only cookies but also saved passwords. (If using Firefox, take a look at the settings in Tools->Options->Privacy->Settings; I'm not sure of the equivalent settings in Chrome but they should be easy enough to find.)

In summary, I think it is more likely to be something to do with the browser you are using (and its settings) than something affecting the computer globally, but I could be wrong.

thanks for that. I could open in Firefox. remembered I had downloaded Hola a few days ago so disabled it. Don't know why it prevented yahoo access but i can just enable it again if need be.

Ahh Hola - you are more tech savvy then you sounded then (if you don't mind me saying) using proxys etc

Hi Junior Bennett. I am not tech savvy but was wondering about Hola. I have trouble getting some videos to play and they say install Adobe flash player even though I have the latest one installed and enabled already. I also notice that a lot of sources suggest that Adobe Flash has gone passed its sell by date. Would Hola act as a flash player or am I completely off track. I am on Google Chrome. Would appreciate it if you could advise.

I use Hola as a  proxy so when i get those messages saying "BT has banned access to this site" or "This is not available in your country" I switch to USA on Hola and the server thinks I am coming from America.

So I use it for streaming sites that I am unable to access. Normally I...wait a minute! Why is your name now Hob? Where's Phillip Foxe?

Apologies Junior Bennett. I appear to have butted in. Thank you for that information though. Hob.

Ahhh - no worries Lol So you getting that message when trying to stream stuff? even on YouTube? I have actually disabled Flash on my browser forcing sites to use some other format.

I have needed to hide my UK computer address in situations. I think getting something off Amazon or something. Not that I would break the law by getting copies of some US show only shown on some satellite station with a subscription...but... Thanks, I will download Hola and see what happens.

I'm not advising anyone break the law..I never anything about watching shows from subscription channels for free. I just said streaming sites - youtube is  a streaming site and sometimes content is not available in this country - its not copywrited material however.

I hear you Mr Bennett and will live by your moral standards.
