Horse racing could be back in Haringey as early as 2018 according to an article in Racing Post (print only version). A feasibility study is looking into the creation of a horse racing track at the bottom of Alexandra Park, near to the original.
This plan comes as part of a much needed injection of cash from the Qatari Sovereign Fund into the delayed Heartlands Development in Wood Green (housing & retail), which sits next to Alexandra Park. The number of housing units would nearly double thanks to the re-newed investment.
The Qataris, already heavily involved in British racing, are keen to bring horse racing back to North London as part of an extension to the Heartlands housing Development. Boris was said to be utterly delighted with the news ... ‘a flutter on the horses is good for the soul and should be welcomed with a boost to housing in the heart of Haringey’.
According to the article in Racing Post the planning application will go in ‘after the feasibility study has been completed in June’. Parkside Malvern Residents Association are said to be unhappy about the plans.

And I hear that Sainsbury's, worried about the negative PR as a result of the long queues to exit the car park, are actively considering turning the car park area back into a dog track, with a circus at Christmas.
Andy, a spokesperson from the North Harringay Residents Assoc, Friends of Ducketts Common & Friends of Harringay Passage (very powerful individual) said 'no' to that proposal and ... the council listened ... thank god for Harringay activists ... now over to the traffic survey ... 'my road has more traffic than yours!'
Better still I read that, to solve the argument over Haethrow and Gatwick they are demolishing all the buildings along Green Lanes from The Arena up to the Salisbury, and using Green Lanes as London's newest runway... Finsbury park will be used as the car park.
