Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I would like to buy an old antique engagement ring from a second hand jeweller the man in the shop isn't too forthcoming with his information the ring which he says is 1930s only has a hallmark of platinum and no other numbers or marks it just says platinum does this sound right ?
My husband is very suspicious any advice would be very helpful as to if a diamond ring will have just that hallmark ?
Thank you in advance
Tina

A quick google tells me that platinum rings were exempt from hallmarking until '75. It may have had 'plat' stamped on it prior to that year though. Looks unlikely that the ring is '30's. My brother works in the trade. I'll ask him this evening.
That is great Sharon thank you so much
He says that if the ring is stamped 'platinum' it could well be genuine (stamps on platinum weren't required pre 73) but to be absolutely certain you would need the band acid testing. You could get this done, and the diamond graded at Hatten Gardens. There will be no stamp to indicate diamond or quality of diamond.
That's lovely thank you for asking help and for your help it really is much appreciated.
Have a good day
Tina
You're very welcome. No bother.
