Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Plans for conversion of former St Anns police station

published at HGY/2015/0034. 

Keeps the facade at least of the old building, and adds two new blocks along Hermitage Road.

A total of 24 new tenure-blind homes all designed to Lifetime Homes standards in a new apartment building containing 19 dwellings on Hermitage Road and 5 terraced houses in a secluded mews to the rear of the site.

• A total of 8 new flats built within the converted St Ann’s police station, including a new modern extension. • 12.5% of accommodation will be affordable and 87.5% will be private.

Open for comments for 3 weeks at least.

Anyone know what tenure-blind means?  Does the 1 in 8 figure refer to the flats in the old PS, or to the whole development?

could do with some retail included. There isnt a shop for ages around there

Apart from the general store, butchers, dry cleaners and fast food outlet about 500 yards down Hermitage Road! A 10-12 minute walk will get you to the Arena Shopping Park - not exactly a retail desert!

There's nothing on St Anne's road but a long stretch of dreariness. There the park cafe, one corner shop, a bookies and a weird shop selling old office furniture.

So bring this up in the comments on the planning site.  Positive suggestions are whats needed, objections need to be within the planning criteria. It may be useful to speak to someone in the planning dept re how to go about this.  Shouldn't be difficult to show a need for eg a couple of small retail units to be part of the plan, start by mapping whats in walking distance already if eg with a buggy and toddler in tow.

So you would like it to be just like Green Lanes ? All tacky shop fronts with fluorescent placards and rubbish piling up on the pavements ?

Five minutes' walk to Green Lanes or Seven Sisters Rd and you can buy trash to your heart's content

Not my patch, but I guess it's not five minutes' walk to the nearest pint of milk, especially if you're not walking at the standard 3mph.

Easily a five minute walk to the nearest shop. There is a convenience store on St Anne's Road just past the Ritches Road, a pleasant stroll across the park gets you to another on Black Boy Lane. 5 mins down Hermitage Road gets you to a third. Hardly requires superhuman effort and may even provide the odd health benefit :-)

I dont understand why you seem to have a problem with there being more shops on st ann's rd. As it is now it's a deadzone with hardly anyone walking around. This development is another missed opportunity to breathe some life into the area because its just more residential units. Cities need to have a mix of residentail, retail and business space to thrive.

Nonsense. St Ann's Rd is mainly Hospital on one side and park on the other. That's your mix and it's a pleasant change from Green Lanes. There are houses at either end and there are shops there.

Thank God for a retail desert.
