Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Some time ago I put together a facebook group for those who love to fly in Harringay and North London. A bit soaking underfoot at the moment, but for anyone interested in a fly in, when the weather improves check out the group on Facebook.

Share tips on single, 2 and 4 line kites from local kiteflyers. Its a great sport, and fun activity for anyone of any age.

Yep, its listed on the map as 'Kite Hill', as you may have noticed,  gets very busy at weekends, Ally Pally is less crowded:)

The Group covers all of North London including flying areas in Camden, Enfield, and Tottenham etc..

J..  The local kite nut! :)

lol funny man,

Nearest spot for me, living in CE, esp if you don't drive.
You fly at P Hill then?

Not playing since a kite picked me up and threw me to the ground  last summer.  Left me with a terrible pain in all the diodes down my right-hand side.

Have you all read The Wasp Factory?

Nope, Not read The Wasp Factory, not sure what that's got to do with kites. However, sorry to hear about your accident, it sounds very painful. Kite safety is paramount, there can be a LOT of pull and and velocity.

Recommend the book for the memorable passage where his cousin finds out about the power of kites, the hard way. Iain Banks is a wonderful writer. Was.

I was loving the power of a big two-handed kite for about ten seconds, first time I've held one, on a windy beach in Hastings. Then a gust of wind lifted me off my feet, I thought I would end up in France but fortunately had not threaded the hand grips over my arms so was able to let go and hit the beach. Those pebbles are hard.

Aaah yes, a typical, what not to do incident.

Know your kite, know your wind. Foil kites particularly can be dangerous if flown in winds that are too strong for the size of the sail, or just too strong.

Found the ref online, yes, a bit gruesome, but given that most 2 line kites would spin to one side, you've got to admire Banks  artist description, normally its grazed knees or grass, sand  bum before the kite crashes!

I'd recommend a kite with a brake line for beginners. I have read the Kite Runner, equally beautiful with some dark undertones.

Happy Kiting, well err if you go kiting again:)
