Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The redecorated space has been open for about two weeks now, and it is nice. More machines, some new heavy toys, good space and lighting. Maybe there could be more space for exercises with floor mats and a bit more variety in the machines, but this is a problem that can be solved over time. They are promising to open some new studio spaces this week for exercise classes and the like, so it might be possible to humbly predict that it will only get better.

At first I was a little surprised by the new changing space, since it is mixed gender. This did not create the discomfort that I thought it might (everyone gets a little private cubicle for changing). Maybe it would be more uncomfortable if I showered there, but I prefer to go home to shower after exercising (sorry, fellow bus passengers!).

So it seems not to be a problem that changing space is not separated by gender, but it might be a problem that it is not separated by purpose. The changing room exits directly to the swimming pool, but people use the same space for the pool and the gym. The proximity to the pool seems to be having the effect that there are rarely dry spaces on the floor, which can make changing a little bit unpleasant.

The whole operation seems to be run by a subcontracted private company called "Fusion lifestyle." No objections to them other than that their name calls to mind the self-indulgent period in the career of Miles Davis.

Fusion are classed as a charity. That means they make no profit and pay no taxes. So they say.

I think their rates are prohibitively expensive, especially for family tickets. Of course the site is now crashing so I can't look it up, but I know that I can't afford their pensioner rates.

And much cheaper than Camden, where I've just moved from.
