Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi everyone,

We are still looking for local artists to take part in the art exhibition at the Harringay Block Party on Saturday 27 September.

We see the participation of local artists as being the foundation for this ’party’ to become an annual event.

In Harringay, we are surrounded by a huge, burgeoning, but as yet under-appreciated artistic community. From the many resident artists dotted around the neighbourhood to the live/work warehouses around Overbury and Fountayne Roads, to the Euroart Studios, Chocolate Factory and Turnpike Lane Art group, we are blessed in this area.

Our aim is to make this event a showcase for the talent and skills of those in the area.

But within this, we want to stress the idea of it being an opportunity for residents to BUY art. It will be an opportunity through which the broader community can begin to actively value and support local artists. An opportunity to engage with both the artists and the concept of buying art, not from a gallery, but from an individual… a member of their community.

A sub-theme of this is to promote these concepts to the children of the area. We would like to provide the opportunity for kids of any age to buy their “first piece”. To select, buy, and treasure a piece of local art. A tangible reminder of their link to the community.

We are open to all types of artistic media and would welcome any interested artists to get in touch at harringayblockparty@gmail.com, to discuss the possibility of joining us on the day.

Block art - all the rage at the moment

I worked with a group to produce an Art wall initiative for the New River, using Rorschach images, for children to participate, very similar results. Maybe with all the large scale grafitti on the New River Wall we should get it back on plan.

In the meantime looking forward to Block Party N4.
1st the Harringay Hurtle in Grafton Gardens, now BP N4, it's a sweet cul de sac, my landlord called it Portola Garde,
(a very generous man.)
N4 1HU was my first home in Harringay over 20 years ago, should be a great little venue, see you all there.
