Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

As the little birdies have become regular visitors to my feeding station I was musing on the possibility of putting a remote camera to get a closer look at their habits. I have looked online and there does seem to be quite a variety of options. I'm looking for one that can be positioned anywhere. Wi-fi versions are more expensive but trailing cables are also a pain. Prices go from about £40 to £300. Anyone got any experience of this?

Those look great. Seem to be a lot of sony digicams around. Can you view pics remotely?

Air beam app on the ipad gives you cheap set up that captures any stop motion movement. If you can attract them to the windows with nice food ( easily done and the birds know very much it's a window as the reflection. Of the feeder seems to be alert them, I wouldn't try with a conservatory though just in case ) you can position your ipad on the dry side of the window.

All for £2.99 or however much the app is if you have an ipad.

I didn't need a birdcam this morning....I had a magpie on my outside windowsill, pecking on the window. Brief but lovely.

Stick a feeder with suet and peanuts hanging from your gutter, you'll have the little birds eventually to watch every morning. With the reflection some times if you happen to be there when the sun is in the right place you can almost touch them without them seeing you.

The magpies are great, l love them, a passionate bird, very curious and quite fearless.

Apparently starlings can mimic sounds like parrots.
Do squirrels not just devour all food you put out for birds? I have tried all sorts of bird food and contraptions to feed birds in my garden but squirrels normally polish it off in a day or so ........any tips?
Yes you need these ...

The top one can go on a fence post. The bottom one needs to hang from something, with ideally no ability for the squirrels to jumpy up on it.

If you are really over run with grey squirrels, consider managing the population with a cage and a good air gun ...

Check the cage regularly though and make sure to have a very thick pair of gloves if you're prepared to do what no one else can bring themselves to do...

I use metal feeder 'trees'. They are quite cheap and squirrels can't climb up the stem.
