Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Dear Cat owners,

I just want to warn you if you have a cat that goes out the front of your house. My beautiful 9 yr old white fluffy cat was killed by a dog in my front garden on Monday afternoon. My neighbours told me the dog was owned by a young black man, and a girl was with him, the dog must have been off the lead and cornered my cat . I  dont know what kind of dog it was, but a passer by reported it to the police, and i have an incident no.

Im devastated by this as he was a treasured pet. if you walk up lausanne road you may have seen him sitting on the window sil waiting for me to come home.

Im looking into this as I dont see why the owner should get away with this, as the dog  must of been off the lead.

Please be aware if your cats go out the front, and bear in mind this was the around 2.30 in the afternoon.

This is really awful and as a cat lover my heart goes out to you, you must be heartbroken after all those years :(

Dogs off the leash are a huge problem is some parts of the borough, I wonder why the police/council don't do anything about it... I see these people regularly around N15, including one dog-owner who has 4 massive dogs (and I mean "status" dogs) that are NEVER EVER kept on a leash - if I see them surely the police/council must see them too?

Walked with lead (where dogs must be on a lead at all times)

This Order will require dogs to be kept on a lead on all public roads and footways, all public car parks, small areas of public land, parks and open spaces of less than half a hectare and all Homes for Haringey land. The Police asked the council to consider making this Order as they had concerns that dogs off lead can cause traffic accidents and intimidate people.

This Dogs on Lead Order is designed to ensure that our smaller parks and open spaces are free of roaming dogs and the anti-social activities of irresponsible dog owners.

Homes for Haringey has also asked that we make an order requiring dogs to be on a lead whilst on their land so that residents are not affected by roaming dogs and dog mess.

I FOUND THIS ON THE HARINGEY WEBSITE....IM FOLLOWING IT UP WITH THE DOG WARDEN

i WANT TO KNOW IF DOGS ARE MEANT TO BE ON A LEAD ON THE PAVEMENTS IN HARINGEY.

A SIGN UP MAY PREVENT ANOTHER CATS DEATH, A CHILD BEING ATTACKED, OR ANOTHER DOG !

I NOTICE I HAVE HAD 1,329 VIEWS OF MY ORIGINAL MESSAGE... MAYBE SOMETHING CAN BE DONE HERE.....

I am so sorry for your loss. Such a beautiful cat. x

It would be good to know if something can be done. I imagine responsible dog owners get just as frustrated when they see irresponsible dog owners allowing their dogs to run riot - it gives them all a bad name!

There are very few signs up in Haringay informing dog walkers that they must keep their dogs on a lead so that would be start at least! I think it needs to be enforced as well or somehow make it easier to be enforced. Some people think it doesn't apply to them because they don't have a dog that is classed as banned.

Perhaps the local councillor could get involved? I'm sure this is a much wider problem than people are aware of.

Could you let us know what happens - and if you need any support? Like us writing to the council or local councillor?
