Hi everyone, a British Gas survey person inspected our loft with a view to installing the free insulation. On the face of it a great deal, however we were not impressed with the surveyor for several reasons. I wonder if anyone else has experience of British Gas insulating their loft please? Is it a case of it being too good to be true? We did not approach them, they sent a letter originally.
Thanks, Marian

Should preface this by saying that in my experience anything to do with British Gas is overly expensive.
Check the small print, is the insulation free truly free? Or is there an 'offset' against bills or charge for actually installing?
You may be eligible for a 'green subsidy' but again, check the small print.
Even if all of that is free you may discover unexpected expenses such as a knee-board because you can no longer see the boards if you need to get into the loft
Thanks JP.
No we don't even have gas supplied by British Gas, which makes it all the wierder.
They had a stand at the Ideal Home show and I approached them (I am currently not supplied by them). As I understand it, British Gas have a responsibility (under the Energy Company Obligation - ECO) to reduce CO2 emissions etc which they can do by insulating your house (they do this for free so they can meet their targets) and then claiming the lower emissions against your house.
They are due to come to mine on 9 May to survey the loft so will report back then.
Thanks for your interesting replies Kris, Billy and Mr Ranger. What I forgot to say, the surveyor said he would provide an Energy Performance Certificate, for free!
So you see why the gift horse looks attractive.
