Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Anyone recognise the group of young guys who always seem to be hanging outside the betting shop by the Tesco at Turnpike Lane Station? Are they the same group who were ASBOed off Duckett's Common? I've seen the same guys just hanging there about half a dozen times over the last few weeks. Definitely not there to have a flutter on the GGs...

I'm not a fan of the government running anything, but I'd be in favour of well regulated, government licensed market place for harm reduction reasons. That would mean things like health, working standards and immigration inspections & enforcement.

This is to protect the workers and customers from health issues and minimize the opportunity for trafficking and exploitation.

I've made our safer neighbour police team aware so they can follow it up.

There are also guys of about 20 hanging out outside the barbers/fast food places just opposite where you come out of Turnpike Lane station on the bus station side.   They have all been smoking dope on the pavement for the last few days, which feels a bit intimidating and not very nice when you have kids with you and have to walk past them.

Don't worry about potheads - you're not likely to get grief from them, pot makes them docile.

If a pothead were to ever mug you, you could probably snatch you wallet right back. You'd be a mile away by the time mr. mugger figures out what just happened.

Cookies, chocolate and maybe a kebab is all they can manage.

Agree. London is a mixture of different cultures, ages and attitudes. Some people don't like it when they have to come across real young people who are not perhaps comfortably off and really have nowhere else to go to hang out and socialise. I'd rather they were there than hassled off the streets by Community Support Officers or the cops. They have a right to live here too.

You might feel differently though if your 12 year old child (in school uniform) had been offered drugs by them.

Touche! Nobody ever bloody offers me drugs and at least I look like I can pay for them.

John, That's because you look like a cop

That's what he told me ... oops, I've just blown his cover :)

John, you'll have to get a wig or grow a beard or sometink

Next time you walk past them suddenly scream 'Keep your hands where i can see 'em !'  (these are the first words you here from undercover cops when they reveal themselves) - Watch them have a massive panic attack - Then walk on as though nothing happened.

Has your 12 year old been offered drugs? If so, you have a duty, nay, a responsibility to identify and report this person. I am not a supporter of the criminalisation of drugs, but I am completely opposed to minors taking or being offered drugs. I have done just this and had a drug dealer busted. Whether it had any positive effect I don't know, but I impressed on my child what I believed. If, one the other hand, you are offering this as speculation, then you are spreading malicious gossip and defaming a person or persons not identified.

No, not speculation. I don't indulge in malicious gossip or potential defamation.

This happened to my child several months ago but I was only told about it very recently.
