Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Looking for someone to cut out an old disused metal water tank out of my loft. It's about 75x75x75cm,  larger than the loft hatch.   Anyone had this done before - pricing?

Thanks.

I have done this when i was a metal worker many years ago (not now!) many old galvanised tanks are left as they were put in when the house was built around them! All I can say is this I would recommend using a reputable tradesman and paying good money if you really want to do it. This is not really a DIY job. Using a grinder or similar is a fire risk. The tool usually used is a 'nibbler' which bites pieces of metal out a bit at a time. I would contact someone like THL on Hornsey High Street. They can be a bit brusque but know what theyre doing so will give you the straight dope.

Thanks - I'm not familiar with THL - these guys: www.thlplumbingbathrooms.co.uk ?

Briefly I thought about DIY using metal shears to avoid the noise/fire risk but the rental price is pretty high for 3.2 mm ones (£50+/day)  and I haven't a clue what I'm doing (they all seem to be 110v - oddly).

Yes you will pay more for professional tools which are prone to damage and need resharpening. Need a bit of getting used to....110volt is standard for site tools for safety reasons. They require a transformer to use at home which usually comes with it. Yes that is the THL I meant. Worth a call but don't be surprised if you don't get through straight away-they are a busy shop.

I'll pop in - they're not far..

Transformer - that explains the yellow box on sites.

The plumbing shop can be busy and the staff flustered. I usually go into the bathroom part and hang around till someone is free

Called them - got through instantly - they don't do that kind of work.

Chap gave me a couple of plumber numbers (Simon & James) instead.
