Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I walked the length of Harringay Green Lanes this morning in search of anyone taking donations for the Poppy Appeal.

From Endymion to Duckett's Common, nothing. Up and down Green Lanes at 11 am, I saw just two people wearing a poppy.

Tesco, Iceland, the bookies, the news agents, the grocers... Nothing.

It was only when I went to the Old Ale Emporium to watch the football that I saw the first acknowledgment of Remembrance Day. Well done them.

In the Arena, Sainsbury's was running a campaign collecting donations but had no poppies available.

Am I completely out of touch for finding this disappointing?

No you're not. There has been a veteran selling poppies outside Muswell Hill M&S all week, standing in the cold.

But then, that's Muswell Hill

That is sad to hear. Lib Dem Cllr David Schmitz was collecting donations at Turnpike Lane tube earlier this week.

I donated to HM Armed Forces personnel, who came around collecting in our office in the City.

I had this problem too. Went to Wood Green specifically to buy a poppy and couldn't find any!

My poppy says it's made in China

So? The tradition was imported from overseas as well...http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McCrae (my hometown)
I've been selling poppies around here (Manor House and Turnpike Lane stations and the Manor House Sainsbury's) for the last couple of years and people have been very generous. However my efforts have been somewhat hit or miss, so next year I'm hoping to get more people involved. If anyone would like to join me next year, do please send me a message here at about the beginning of October.

.......or put a note on the site to remind people, David?

They were selling them in NHP playground.
