Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Bringing City kids to the countryside.......
After George Monbiot's article in the Guardian recently I was reminded of a long time wish of mine to introduce kids to the countryside;not to pick flowers but to have fun with woods and rivers and fields. The group he went with was Wide Horizons based in Greenwich. Anyone know of something in or near Haringey? I know Haringey has PGL which is a great asset, but I am looking for something maybe less structured.

wwwfarmsforcitychilren is a brilliant organisation set up by the author Michael Morpego. My Daughter spend 7 days on the organic working farm in St Davids in years 3,4 and 5 with her primary school. I think there are other farms closer to london. They care for the animals, plant and reap vegetables, go for walks, play on the beach, make sculptures,have story tellers coming in...best of all they eat what they reap, the food produced on the farm. they aren't allowed junk food or gadgets. They work hard, have fun and get down with nature. It was a rich and wonderful experience for her. She loved it.

PGL? I thought most schools in Haringey go to Pendarren.
The only other thing I can think of atm is the Hornsey branch of Woodcraft Folk.

PGL was what the trip to Pendarren used to be called at school, don't know why. Have been involved in Woodcraft.

PGL is a separate organisation, a private provider of kids outdoor adventure holidays. Lots of schools prefer to use them in Haringey as feedback from Pendarren trips is quite poor. Pendarren is still independent and owned by Haringey council.
