Anyone else had trouble getting through to the Tax Credits Renewal helpline? It's the last day for renewals and I've tried phoning about thirty times so far, but after a long recorded spiel, I just get cut off. Very frustrating and I know I shouldn't have left it so late, but I think they should make it possible to contact them up to the deadline.

Maddy, I tried to renew tax credits by phone about 6 weeks ago and had the same problem so I ended up doing it by post instead - and got a pretty quick response.
The service used to be fine but it hasn't been the case for the last 2 years ime.
Hi Maddy, I had the same problem. I grew more and more incensed, as I had to use my mobile to get through to an 0845 number. Kept getting through to an automated response ( and being charged for the call) only to have to go through another zillion automated responses, and only then finally be supposedly put through to an operator and now told that they couldn't help at this time 'please try later'. Grrrr. When I finally did get through to an 'operator' after having called about 45 times, she wouldn't let me speak but just kept interrupting my sentences with curt queries. I think I'm going to have to start a petition!! 0845 numbers are just a stealth tax in my opinion. At least you should receive prompt service if you are paying through the nose for the call.
Aaaah! I feel better now. Thanks for letting me vent!!
