Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

If you've been to a Turkish restaurant on Green Lanes, you've almost certainly seen the 'Big Meat Plates' the waiters heave on to the tables of eager diners.

After a day with my nose to the grindstone, me and mine took off to Green Lanes for a BMP of our own tonight. It set me to wondering which restaurant does this the best?

I'm not sure I'm in a position to say that, but I can say that I've always thoroughly enjoyed my BMPs from Selale.

Any thoughts?

We had to take our leftovers home from Devran, twice, as there was just too much to get through.

Has got to be Gokyuzu! we always take my family who are from Yorkshire there whan they come down...they love a big portion!, our Jamaican relatives too. great food, great atmosphere.

We were in Selale at the weekend and noticed they now have 3 different options for BMP's! We love theirs - the chicken wings are ace. Never managed to finish one between 2 people. Have occaisionally struggled to finish with 3!

I've only eaten in Gokyuzu but I can't imagine a larger plate of meat than the Jumbo Grill which fed five of us with ease (along with the complementary salads). We did our best to eat the lot but failed.

Always end up going back to Gokyuzu, even with the queues, as nowhere else we've tried quite measures up. Biggest portions too.

What do they usually call this on the menu? I often see people with those plates but somehow never manage to order the right ones.

It's usually called a "Special" or some such. Here it is on Sealale's menu:

I'm with the first reply from Stan and with the piles of locals and Turks who travel to come here in the know - it absolutely has to be Diyarbakir.

Even though I'm on Pemberton and hence right by Devran and Gokyuzu, for our Thursday night kebabs I take the commute down to Diyarbakir every time. We nicknamed their huge meat plates a Tower of Power and boy are they something. For eating in I'd say Gokyuzu has the nicest ambience and Antepliler is the best for BYO, simply as they don't charge corkage and they are also obviously the best for Pide, but for the basic quality of the ocakbasi (the meat grill), you absolutely cannot beat Diyarbakir!

Next time the queue for Gokyuzu is much to bear, I'll check it out.

these posts just re confirm to me how lucky we are to have our fabulous Green lanes. a die hard Gokyuzu fan, but will definately try the other BMP's too at some point
