AN EFFIGY of a fast food icon on a crucifix in Alexandra Palace has sparked outrage among Christians this week.

Teenage protesters allegedly pinned the exhibition organiser to a wall as they demanded the removal of a figure of Ronald McDonald hanging from a cross on an island in The Lake on Saturday.

Tony Peakall, organiser of the Tidy Art exhibition, which runs until Sunday, June 22, revealed how he was attacked by around 10 girls.

They reportedly grabbed him and shouted at him to take it down.

He said: "When I tried to explain about the piece they said if it was a Muslim symbol we wouldn't do it because we would get bombed.

But hold on, was this not about art? And shouldn't artists of any creed be able to express themselves freely in a democratic society?

Whether muslim, hindu, atheist, christian or fairy lover, in a pluralist society nobody should be physically threatened for expressing themselves.
Absolutely. These girls should be made to clean out he pond!
its the muzzos wot did it

:D

this kinda stuff gets on my nerves.
Religion is the root of all evil. And 99% of all wars throughout history. Says is all, really.
Poor little brainwashed girls. Or sad f'ers, depending on how you see them.
the bloodiest wars in modern history (WW1 and WW2) were not caused by religion.

religion does a lot of good also. i wouldnt write it off.
What was that about, bad people do bad things and good people do good things but it takes religion for good people to do bad things?

Fairy stories for adults.

Come on, burn me.
It is such a bizarre story this.

The artist: why put Ronald up on a cross anyways. Mcs do salads now so the protestors won didn't they. Fewer people eat there so Mcs shot the slugs and stole their lettuces. Better subjects to hang out to dry me thinks.

The religious girl gang ninjas: the journalist needs to find them and interview them. (He might need a giant fly swot and rock pooling net). They have reasons for doing what they did. Maybe they're doing the practice bit to a Sunday school project. Dunno. Journalist hasn't finished the job.

The curator: if this is meant to give Ally Pally a better profile .... I'm not havin' it. Go get some Banksy .... NOW!

I suppose selling a few lettuce leaves in a plastic carton lets the Mcs off the hook. Causing
the premature deaths of half the western world isnt that bad, poisoning and brainwashing children.. its not as if Mc is a terrorist is it? They've even smartened up some of the restuarants with adult furniture like big armchairs, taking away the clown and the mirrors, this is very considerate because alot of their addicts I mean customers, have grown up, and outwards and need big chairs and would rather not see themselves while stuffing that sh*t down their throats.
I take it you're not a customer. Come to think of it, neither am I. :)
The last one I had was about 1984, apparently this is when cjd was doing the rounds and has an incubation period of upto 20 years or more...ticking time bombs!!!! But as I said, its not as if McD's a terrorists or anything..
Why do religions always get it in the back? I'm not religious but the generalisations are inaccurate.

All football fans are right wing hooligans as well aren't they?

Religion has done more good than bad in the world, lets not forget that. Just because there's a few nutters around including Muslims, Jews and Christians doesn't make them all bad, far from it.

I do like Ronnie on a cross though. All religious folk need to lighten up after all this is suppose to be a free country; freedom to practise religion as well as freedom to criticise it.
Yes I think the fact we are a 'free country' should be explained to kids in school these days who seem to get the wrong end of the stick about freedom of expression. I think those girls should receive a good telling off by their school and their christian teachers if not arrested for physically intimidating someone. But religion cannot be blamed for wars. Wars are about territory and the resources they want to bleed from that territory for profit at the cost of peoples lives and communities. Religion is at the heart of many communities and gets used as a way to justify murder and revenge while giving those getting murdered something to cling on to. Perhaps those girls think they are good old christian soldiers marching off to war.. You would think that if a religious organisation was sure of itself and actually believed in its own philosophies and rituals it wouldnt feel so threatened when it gets criticised. The christian church wouldnt mind the artist using the crucific in the name of art. Those girls are copycating behaviour from the muslim commuties, I believe their reaction is misplaced in this instance. Like people have said earlier, art is about the right to self expression and its meant to get people to talking, it certainly has in this case.
