Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi,

I often see things that look a bit like scratch cards in people's windshields/stuck on their car windows on my road.  Are these parking vouchers for guests? Where do you get them from?

I have looked on the council webiste but it is quite confusing. There are all sorts of permits and vouchers and it takes a long time to apply for them.

I don't drive but I have a friend coming to stay who does and it would be handy if she could park on my road!

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

Laura

That's just what they are. Go to the right page on the Council website via our one-button council page - click on the coloured squares pictures at the bottom of the right hand column.

Actually the whole thing is very straightforward. When the troll under the bridge asks you the three questions you give the answers: (1) Yes; (2) Yellow socks; and (3) Braised with onions and red peppers.

If in doubt, take your pet goat with you.

HA, HA, HA, THANK YOU, I was feeling a bit low, and that cheered me up no end.

I can assure you that no goats were harmed during the issue of our visitor parking permits.

you have to go and stand in a room in Wood Green for around three hours, then someone from the council will assume you're there to process a claim for housing benefit. when you explain that you actually want to give them money, they will order a translator. at some point you will either kill yourself or conclude it's easier to park at Ikea and get the bus to your house.

It's a faff (but not quite that bad!). You have to register online and you then get a login number, then you apply for your permits. About a week between starting whole thing off and getting your tickets. There are numerous rants on here about how clunky the whole thing is (from me included) so I won't repeat them here - just don't try to do it in a hurry!

People on the site are usually able to help out if you need to borrow a coupe of tickets, you just need to know which zone you live in..

Hope this helps!

Is it just me then?  Last year I needed some visitors permits so I went to the Wood Green place in Station Road, waited about 5 minutes to be served and bought a pile of the sniff and scratch short-term type permits and a couple of long 2-week visitors permits with little trouble at all.

The fact that it turned out that there was a typo on one of the 2-week permits which led to 2 parking fines and some considerable palava in order to get the fines cancelled was a whole other story....

That was always my experience too, but from what's been reported here recently the new system isn't as kind.

Love the idea of a typo on the permits - you couldn't make that up!! (But my sympathies for what I imagine sorting it out involved).

I found the online system on the council website to be a doddle to use. What's more, when I had a couple of questions about sending in proof of address etc., the office staff emailed me back within an hour or so, and once I gave them our council tax reference number we didn't have to send anything through the post.

It takes a few days to get it set up first time, but after that you can order permits when you need them in just a minute or so, and they usually arrive in a couple of days. There are many things you can complain about with Haringey Council, but I don't think this is one of them!

Thanks for all the replies and advice. I now have my vouchers! It was very straightforward in the end. I emailed this address:  permits-vouchers@haringey.gov.uk on Bank Holiday Monday, had a reply on Tuesday, sent them my council tax bill by email on Wednesday and by the afternoon of Wednesday I had my login and code and I bought a couple online and they were with me on Friday! Very efficient, thank you to Giovanna at the council.

I recently bought some more visitor permits online including day permits I needed urgently for builders, and they arrived by post the next day.
