Hi folks! Up at Music on the Ladder HQ we've been busy planning some more events and we have two lined up to tell you about.
First up, we have a concert performance of Pergolesi's Stabat Mater on Saturday, 16 March at 7.30 pm at St Paul's Harringay on Wightman Road.
This haunting setting of a medieval meditation on the suffering of Mary was composed by Pergolesi shortly before his death, at the age of 26. Music on the Ladder invites you to attend this short concert and to join us for a chat with a drink afterwards.
A retiring collection will be made, with a suggested donation of £5.
The performers are:
Soprano - Yvonne Eddy
Contralto - Anna Stuttard
Violin I - Tim Ellerby
Violin II - Juliet Dwek Selley
Viola - Margaret Ellerby
Cello - Rachael Williams
Directed from the harpsichord by Leah Stuttard.
Then, on Saturday, 8 June, we will have a Come and Sing "The Mikado". As you might imagine (given that it's only February!), we're still in the planning stages of this one, but please put the date in your diary. As with our previous come and sing events, there will be rehearsals during the day, with a performance in the evening and we will be welcoming back David Went to put us through our paces musically.
The Mikado is one of Gilbert and Sullivan's best known works and its cutting satire remains remarkably relevant in the 21st century, as well as it being a really good sing! We'll be putting it on as a concert performance, and in the next few weeks we'll be advertising auditions for the principal parts (of which there are many!), so keep an eye out for that if you fancy your chances as a Pish-Tush or a Pitti-Sing.
