Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

"Seven Sisters Community" is a new blog covering Tottenham and surronding areas of London. I have posted this on Harringay Online as a significant number of this site's members live and work in Tottenham.

The blog has been launched at the moment 'in beta', but it will be polished up shortly with a new header and some more stuff to be added. As the very first post says: "Hello World. It's been a long time coming".

what is the link?

Great minds Neville - still tweaking this one:  http://gosoto.wordpress.com/

Yes, great minds...... Thanks Pam: will add your link shortly.

Great name, looks good.

According to your map though I don't actually live in SoTo (I'm in the shaded out bit in the extreme south). What would you call this area out of interest? I just want to know where I live! *sobs*

I'm going with 'Manor House' until I get a better alternative...

Is there a case for that being Stamford Hill? You have Stamford Hill School just round the corner and the station not far away. For what it's worth, in the mid-nineteenth century, the famous Victorian novelist Charlotte Riddell who lived in a house where St Ann's Hospital is today, described herself as living in Stamford Hill.

There's a case for it, certainly - roughly a third of my neighbours seem to say they live in Stamford Hill, with the rest alternating between South Tottenham, Seven Sisters, Manor House and 'Haringey' (spelling assumed).

I generally find that whenever I call it any of these things, someone else will correct me though, so it's been a learning experience ;)

Yes, I can see that it's open to a number of interpretations as it seems to border a few areas. For me, Manor House doesn't go that far east, but that 's just my take on it.

Seven Sister is a long street and it is difficult to set up a local community area.

Agree that something local name has much stronger attraction and search for identity

Seven Sisters Road is a road, Marek. Seven Sisters is an area, named after seven elm trees planted in the eighteenth century. Here's more in a Wikipedia article I wrote & illustrated [hoping a local would pick it up and move it on :o( ]

My pagan friends date the Page Green trees earlier than C18. It would be cool to turn out to be living on a ley line. (Remember them?)

Sounds intriguing!
