Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Finsbury parkrun is a free weekly 5km event for runners of all standards, which takes place every Saturday at 9am in Finsbury Park.

It is not a race against other runners, but a 5k timed run and it can really be whatever you want it to be, whether that's for fun or as part of a training plan.

It offers an opportunity for all the local community, male or female, young or old, to come together on a regular basis to enjoy this beautiful park and get physically active into the bargain. We want to encourage people to jog or run together irrespective of their ability – this event is truly open to all and best of all it really is FREE!

After the run, if you don’t have to get off straight away, there will be the chance to socialise with everyone at the Finsbury Park Café.

Whether you are a complete novice looking to get yourself started on your own "running journey" or a seasoned athlete wanting to use this as a part of your training schedule, it looks like this is a regular event that's worth a looksee.

Finsbury parkrun is supported by Haringey’s Sports Development Trust and Haringey Council.

There's one at Ally Pally too. I'm weighing up whether or not I dare try one once I've finished couch to 5K (week 6 and counting)...

I've been doing the Finsbury Parkrun most weeks for just over a year and I'm a big fan. I like the fact that i can rely on it always being on, so it can be part of my routine. It gets me up on a Saturday morning so i have smug points all day. It's social without being overly demanding and competitive without being intimidating. I'm pretty much always last too, so it must be good to keep me coming back! Give it a go Julia, I don't think you'll regret it.

Thought it was worth bumping this back up the forums for anyone contemplating, to use the media's favourite phrase, 'new year, new you'.

Been going for a few months now and it's fantastic. Over 160 people of all running levels took part yesterday (some people took less than 18 mins and other took over 36 mins).

I've been going since the autumn - it's excellent.  I'd check the website tomorrow before turning up, due to the snow.

I really must get along to one of these! I run in Finsbury Park every weekend, but don't normally arrive until 10 or so - this will be a great incentive to get up and start a little earlier now I am definitely up to 5k level :) maybe see some of you there (but unlikely tomorrow unless the forecast dramatically changes)

The parkrun is still scheduled for tomorrow as you can run on snow, ice will be more of an issue. However, there will be a recce beforehand and you can check the facebook page for any info before leaving the house.

The main problem areas will be the sharp corners where you can go slow, the possible icing of the stream where the impromptu lake is at the gate near the New River, and the hill, which can lose traction in the wet because of the surface, but I know from experience that you can run up it on the edge of grass.

Hehe...I meant 'unlikely' in that I'm in no way hard enough to face running in arctic temperatures! Postponing to next week :)
