Today after a hasty appeal I managed to have a meeting for residents of the Coliseum, Stroud Green, Crouch End and Harringay in my flat. Yes, you might have guessed from other postings, my flat is directly above the proposed new and large betting shop on Green Lanes. A special thanks to all that attended and I can vouch for residents that the information and advice was greatly appreciated. We only just managed to squeeze into my apartment but I'm glad that there were only a minority needing a cuppa. I only have twenty cups!
If we are to have any influence on this very bad decision we have to move quickly and we start on Monday requesting a meeting with KFH who wish to sell the lease to the betting company.
I understand that previous attempts to negotiate have been frustrating and seem to have been thwarted by KFH's drive to maximise their profits over any credence they might think they have with our community.
So, we will politely ask for a meeting but insist that we need to have a response within 24 hours as a sign of sincerity and good faith. After all , if you asked them to value your million pound house they'd be around like a shot wouldn't they?
Now I know this proposal is going to affect a lot of people in the community but for those of us who call the Coliseum "home" its critical.Therefor, we need your help, ideally, the thousands of you that make up this community. If you feel you can help in anyway to stop this (10th?) betting shop ruining the lives of those that gamble and those that live here let me know. Quickly! Perhaps you have some ideas? We had some good ones at the meeting and I'll let you know them if you join the "Battle for the Coliseum". My email: storks@mac.com
If you have some great, sneaky or plain outright audacious ideas we can put to KFH, let us know.
Lastly, we believe that if KFH ignore our polite request to meet, then there may be a storm coming.
Anyone up for the fight?

Cheers Paul. I couldn't believe how many people came and was pleased that we had folks from Crouch End / Stroud Green too. It just shows how very strong local sentiment is around this issue.
It would be marvellous if KFH and Paul Simon COmmercial would be prepared to withdraw the sword of Damacles for a little while longer and work with us to find a solution that delivers for us all - if there is such a thing!
How about a mock-up photo showing smokers outside the Salisbury Pub, cab drivers outside Harringay Cars and then gamblers outside the proposed site. And me trying to convince my two year old to walk through them all and not be scared.
I am a keen Salisbury patron, and I use Harringay Cars quite a bit too - we live on Harringay Road. I don't mean to bring these two businesses into my objections, but should this betting shop actually open, I won't be trying to work out which group of people is which, I think we'll just be walking round the other way.
Can't Tesco expand and put their kids' toys and clothes ranges in there? The rent does sound ridiculous and like it prevents just about anyone from considering it. But then I know nothing about such things. I do know that many many businesses must surely be better than another betting shop on Green Lanes!?
