Looking for a dancer for leaving do
This might be one of the weirdest "looking-for" posts up here but here goes!
A friend of mine is both getting married and moving to the other side of the world. It's probably going to be the last time we get to see him, at least for a very long time, so we want to make his leaving do a week on Saturday a bit special. We've got a room booked at a pub (in Islington) for the evening and we'd love to have a dancer come and perform for a bit - nothing sleazy or tacky, and it's for a mixed male/female crowd. We were thinking something like burlesque or a belly dancer but after looking online our heads are swimming a bit with all the info out there - and some of the prices are huge! So I thought to have a quick ask on here to see if, by any miracle, someone might be able to help. It's not exactly soemthing I've had experience of *lol*

You might enquire of the Colombian Folklore Dance Group.
I think they do belly dancing amongst other things; they are based near Seven Sisters.

Have a look at these: http://www.londonsfinestflappers.com/ One of them, Aila, is a friend of mine (she's also a flamenco dancer and magician's assistant) and they are awesome. I know (because they are performing at a work party for me) that their prices are reasonable. Aila also gave a Charleston class at my hen do, which was fab, and can do "instant dance classes" as part of the package if that's what you'd like.

At the risk of sounding like a grumpy old woman - and apologies because you may well have a perfectly reasonable budget in mind - but proper compensation for performers is a personal hobbey-horse!
Do bear in mind when you are looking at someone's fees, that you pay for time spent working on choreography, rehearsing, booking rehersal space and costuming, as well as the for performance itself. Great dancer's make it all look effortless - but believe me its not!

Oh, of course - I used to be a musician so I know excatly where you're coming from! And, as I said, I'd never even thought about looking into something like this before.
If it were a large event attended by people with a large budget it would be so much easier - as part of my day job I run events in our organisation - which is nowhere near the budget we have for this sadly. What we're looking for is something very low key; there won't be many people there and many of us are unemployed/in low-paid jobs with young children so there's no way we can afford £200ish which is what we've found so far. The place we have booked in the top room of a pub which would only be suitable for a single dancer and I was maybe hoping for someone small and local, possibly starting up their own business, who would be looking out for small, local events where they could get experience and exposure that we could also support.
I wish we had the budget to really go all-out for it, but sadly many of us are just not in the financial position to do so, but we also want a wonderful send-off for a very daer friend that it's very likely many of us will never see again :-(
