Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Has anyone else noticed that Thames Water have added a layer of rubble to the top of the path for the first 100 yards or so from the Hornsey Station end?

It's not clear to me why Thames Water have done this since I don't remember the path being in a particularly bad state. It's a shame. It looks worse now and is less comfortable to walk on. I'd imagine that it's positively dangerous for any older people who are less steady on their feet.

Here's where the new surface transitions to the old and a picture of the old surface:

On top of the visual amenity and user friendliness aspects, the new surface also appears to be the source of ammunition for kids stoning local houses.

Does the river level also seem higher?

'Yes' to all these observations. It is curious because the path was closed for just over a month, and there were large liquid waste-removal tanker lorries backed on to the entrance near Hornsey station on several occasions and work was going on down at the pumping station at the Hewitt/Allison Road end - but the outcome is a degredation of the footpath, whereas the notices posted led one to believe that improvements were being implemented.

It is a great local thoroughfare and natural habitat with great birdlife and vegetation as well as a beautiful view and historic water channel, which could be enhanced for the community's further benefit. It is also an inevitable occasional location for less desirable activity, but that's reality anywhere, really.

There is also a recurrence of old clothing and food refuse being strewn along the path by the Hewitt/Allison Rd entrance, which is now in to week 2 - at both entrances there is frequently rubbish dumped which takes ages to get cleared as it is not Haringey Council's land - it is Thames Water's responsibility, and they drag their feet on the upkeep of this well-used local pathway. It took me about 3 weeks over a year ago to get them to remove a dead fox (roadkill) from the path - and only when I threatened them with the local press - it was removed on the day I was going to contact the Hornsey Journal.
