My German in-laws have just told us, that based on the Olympics TV coverage they saw, they will be visiting London for the first time in decades, next year.

The Germans are coming; the economy is saved!

In all seriousness, Lesley, I'd be very interested to know what they saw which reawakened their interest in coming again.

I often wonder what people expect and find when they visit. Whether they are shepherded around a semi-imaginary tourists' Britain of castles, cathedrals, museums, monuments, olde teashoppes, and heritage countryside. Or whether they get to experience - and even enjoy - the different aspects of modern Britain?

I think that previously they didn't realise just how green and attractive parts of London are. They've mentioned Kensington Palace and Greenwich as places they would like to visit.

We also plan to take them to Green Lanes for an authentic London Turkish meal!
